Step into London’s rich history at Four Season’s Ten Trinity Square. Housed in the magnificent Grade II* listed former Port of London Authority building - which hosted Sir Winston Churchill and other heads of state at the inaugural meeting of the United Nations general assembly in 1946 and starred in the recent James Bond movie, Skyfall - it overlooks the Tower of London and river Thames, so is perfectly placed for seeing the sights and hitting the shops. Not that you’ll want to leave, when you can enjoy a cocktail in the spectacular Rotunda, sample haute cuisine from three Michelin starred head chef, La Dame de Pic, or indulge in relaxing treatments at the sumptuous Spa.

Head to Greece’s hippest party island, Mykonos, to experience the magical Kenshō boutique hotel, which opens for the summer season on 12 April 2017.  Perched on the edge of Ornos Bay, it’s all rustic refinement, designed to blend with the traditional Cycladic architecture. Its 25 rooms and 10 suites combine hand crafted walls, local stone and solid wood with stylish furnishings from Patricia Urquiola, Paola Navone and other big design names, creating a soothing atmosphere, where any stresses immediately melt away. The rooftop bar and restaurant serve fine food, with views across the glistening Aegean sea, and if you require further relaxation there is a beauty salon, hammam and spa. Room service is ordered on an iPad, available in every room and pre-loaded with unlimited music.

With the opening of the new Museum of Art, Architecture & Technology and the arrival of the ARCO Lisboa Art Fair in May, 2017 is a good time for art and design lovers to visit the city. So why not book a stay at the just opened Memmo Príncipe Real? Named after the creative quarter it’s located in, this four-storey hotel (the third in this series from architect Samuel Torres de Carvalho) has 41 rooms and is set high on a hill with uninterrupted views across the cityscape. Its contemporary exterior of limestone and glass is softened inside with a neutral palette of taupes, sage green, natural wood and textiles. In the restaurant, chef Vasco Lello offers local cuisine with an international flavour.

Just a short hop north of Rome, this legendary hotel re-opened last year to much acclaim and continues to attract an international jet set crowd. Once home to the billionaire John Paul Getty, the Renaissance palazzo, which dates back to the seventeenth century, is set amongst centuries-old olive trees, beside the Tyrrhenian Sea. A sympathetic refurb has seen it retain its Italian grandeur, whilst acquiring a glistening indoor pool, a Michelin starred restaurant and a smart new spa. It even has a private museum crammed full of ancient artefacts unearthed during the renovations. With 34 rooms and a cluster of suites, it’s wise to book soon if you want to enjoy its Roman splendour, private beach and outdoor heated saltwater pool.
